Develop a Success Mindset–Is That All It Takes To Create Wealth?

Develop a Success Mindset – Is That Really All It Takes To Create Wealth??

I’m more of a literal girl. I go for the details and I’m very specific in all I do. I’ve read everything there is on personal development and how to develop a success mindset. I could tell you everything you are supposed to do to become successful in your home based business.

I knew what my “Why” was; I knew what my goals were. I had all the affirmations in the world going for me. I practiced the law of attraction…yet, where was the magical success I was supposed to have had by now? I came to the conclusion that this must work for everyone but me. I really didn’t understand how thinking positive and making goals actually made them come true in reality.

Anyone who is self employed and wants to build their business bigger and better spends time working on their personal development. Personal development books sold an average of over $10.6 Billion in the past few years. There are a lot of people trying to better themselves and become successful. However if everyone became successful from following all this great advice, we would certainly have a lot more millionaires then we do today. This goes to show that something is missing, and it isn’t only me who was missing it.

Then I had that moment that successful people talk about. It came shortly after the holiday break. The kids were home from school, and I had a lot of holiday plans that were taking me away from my business. I wasn’t able to work my business like usual. So I decided to take a short break and continue after my trip. This trip was the turning point for me and my business. I had a 15 hour drive ahead of me, and because my kids are really little, the only way I was going to attempt this trip was to go when they were asleep (which by the way they slept 12 out of the 15 hours – totally awesome!) So to keep myself occupied, I brought along 3 different CD training series, which totaled over 30 hours. I had purchased these awhile back, but never had the time to stop actively working to listen to them. I was really happy this trip would allow me the time to finally listen to them, and to keep my mind occupied instead of fighting driving fatigue. These trainings were great and helpful, but unfortunately there was no “ah-ha” moment for me like I was secretly hoping for.

It didn’t come until later. The weird thing was it didn’t come all at once either. It first started when I wasn’t prepared for it. I was folding laundry while listening to a webinar on mindset. I was a little annoyed at first that the big ta-da was about mindset. Honestly I have always considered this stuff “fluff”. I wanted the details; I wanted to know the “How”. But after listening for awhile, and not even taking notes (I’m a freak about notes!) it all started to sink in. All 30 hours from the trip came back and this training began a shift in my mind.

Then I finally took some advice from a current book I’m reading and physically sat down with some paper, a pen and a calendar. I created my goals for the next year, but it didn’t end there. I created specific dates to achieve these goals, but it didn’t even end there like it would have before. I went even further and wrote down the exact steps I would have to do to achieve these goals. Then I broke it down into which tasks will be done on which day of the week to meet those goals. Then I went a step further and handed that sheet to someone else to read out loud. Talk about accountability! It was at the end of this day that I felt the moment that everyone talks about. Because I’m such a detailed person, it took a lot more for me to feel it. I needed the specific ACTION steps I have to do so I could achieve my goals. This is a step that isn’t talked about all too often. Maybe it’s implied, but if you don’t put in writing what the action steps are for you to achieve your goals, you won’t fulfill them. So to answer the headline question, I would say “No”. Your mindset is not everything.

Developing a success mindset is the biggest step for sure to create wealth. However, the action steps that will help you achieve your goals are a close second.
